The treatment itself is just half the story. What you do in the 24–48 hours after anti-wrinkle injections or fillers can make a real difference to your results, how quickly any side effects resolve, and how long your results last. Here is our complete aftercare guide.
Immediately after treatment
- Some redness, swelling and tenderness at the injection sites is completely normal and expected. This typically resolves within a few hours to a day.
- Apply a cool compress (not ice directly on the skin) to any particularly tender areas for short intervals if needed.
- Stay upright for at least 4 hours after anti-wrinkle injections — do not lie down or bend over excessively during this time.
- Avoid touching, rubbing or massaging the treated area.
For the first 24 hours
- Avoid alcohol — alcohol thins the blood and can worsen bruising. Ideally avoid it for 24 hours before and after treatment.
- Avoid strenuous exercise — elevated heart rate and blood pressure can increase bruising and may affect the distribution of the product.
- Avoid extreme heat — saunas, steam rooms, very hot baths and direct sun exposure can all worsen swelling and bruising.
- Avoid facials, facial massage or microdermabrasion — any treatment that involves manipulation of the skin should be avoided.
- Apply makeup gently if needed, avoiding direct pressure on injection sites.
"Arnica gel or tablets taken before and after treatment can significantly reduce the appearance of bruising — many of our clients use it routinely."
For the following week
- Continue to avoid excessive manipulation of the treated area.
- If you've had lip fillers, avoid very hot or very cold food and drinks for a few days, and sleep on your back if possible to avoid pressure on the lips overnight.
- Any lumps or irregularities from filler should smooth out within 1–2 weeks as the product settles — gentle massage as advised by your practitioner can help.
- For anti-wrinkle injections, the full effect won't be visible until 14 days post-treatment. Don't judge the results before then.
